Basis of Design Highlights Urea Plant Features

Investment dollars are hard at work supporting the Genesis engineering team as they dig deep into the urea plant design and technology available today versus thirty-five years ago when the last greenfield ammonia-urea plant was built in Canada. It’s an exciting time as the Genesis project moves forward with a state-of-the-art plant that will set a new standard of being majority-owned by farmers for farmers. The plant ensures fertilizer security and a vertically integrated cost structure for the farmer investor. 

Our team of specialized engineers, together with Genesis senior management attended key meetings with urea fertilizer technology providers from around the world in Houston, TX the week of June 6th. These meetings provided Genesis the opportunity to discuss, with plant equipment manufacturers and contractors, the best technology for our ultimate plant design.

Ian Craven Appointed to the Board of Directors

Ian Craven has served clients for more than 30 years as a business advisor with a focus in finance, corporate strategy, and governance. As a partner at MNP for over 22 years, he retired from the partnership in May 2023. Ian has led engagements in MNP’s Management Consulting division in to support decision-making and financing for projects where large capital requirements were needed. In agriculture, Ian has completed work for clients in most sectors of the industry, particularly assessing projects in manufacturing and processing; including several years advising the Genesis Fertilizer project. At the macro-industry level, Ian completed work for many commodity organizations and governments to provide recommendations in the areas of cost of production, industry competitiveness, industry impact analysis, and program effectiveness. Outside of agriculture, Ian has worked for clients on a wide range of capital projects including commercial, manufacturing, hospitality, and recreational developments. Ian is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA CMA) with an MBA in Corporate Finance and is a Professional Agrologist. Ian has served on numerous boards and committees of these professional organizations including CMA Manitoba and CMA Canada as well as an inaugural board member for the Chartered Professional Accountants Western School of Business. Genesis is grateful to have Ian join our team, his experience will be invaluable as we move into the next phases of the project that will require significant financial oversight.

Insights from Genesis Fertilizers Investors

We receive many questions from potential investors as we go through the formal Genesis Fertilizers investor deck. One section that our team of investment advisors generally spend extra time on is how Genesis will return cash to their farm. The answer is that the fundamental business model of Genesis is to return free cash flow back to the farmer-owners as quickly and prudently as possible. The underlying business plan is to not build up huge cash reserves for additional projects but instead it is to manage the business to ensure the proposed plant and SuperCenters are operating with solid financials . As such, once the operating company has build up a cash balance, in reserve, equal to one year of operating costs, Genesis is obligated to flow the accumulating cash back to the owners at essentially 98% of availability. The reason, so that the net cost of your nitrogen fertilizer is consistently as close to the manufactured cost of production as possible. It is the ultimate form of a “Closed Loop System”. Your farming operation is the owner and the customer rolled into one entity. A perfect combo! The business model also ensures that our “Strategic Investors” receive the largest possible return on their unit holdings.

Genesis Distribution Network

Genesis management has been active in the last quarter, holding meetings and negotiations with property owners at preferred SuperCenter locations across Western Canada.

Tisdale SK: The location agreement for a major SuperCenter was finalized with C-Merak and Invest Tisdale.
Wrentham, AB: An option to purchase land to locate a SuperCenter on Forty Mile Rail was executed.
Rycroft, AB: Genesis met with the Side Group of Grande Prairie and is updating a previous agreement to locate the Peace Country SuperCenter east of Rycroft on the CN line – more to follow.
Unity, SK: Negotiations continue with NWT management for a long-term agreement to construct a Genesis SuperCenter on the NWT industrial park.
Manitoba: Our land team is reviewing key locations suitable in the south-central region for development.
