Natural gas plays a vital role in ensuring energy security and reliability in Saskatchewan. In 2020, Saskatchewan’s natural gas production averaged 354.2 million cubic feet per day. Saskatchewan’s gas production represented approximately 2% of total Canadian natural gas production in 2020.* This natural resource plays a vital role in ensuring energy security and reliability in Saskatchewan.  

The abundance of natural gas reserves in Saskatchewan signals a massive opportunity for enhanced and increased fertilizer production, benefiting local farming production each growing season.  

With approximately 3.3 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves, and  low prices, utilizing this natural resource will be to the benefit of local farming operations in Saskatchewan and Western Canada. As natural gas is essential in fertilizer production, the proposed Genesis Fertilizers manufacturing complex harnesses the opportunity for local fertilizer production with consistent prices and supply. The proposed plant will produce urea – one of the most concentrated nitrogenous fertilizers, which allows for increased yields harvest after harvest. Natural gas stands as a clean-burning energy source, offering a much more green-friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels like coal and oil.
