A Natural Advantage In Our Backyard

Natural gas plays a vital role in ensuring energy security and reliability in Saskatchewan. It serves as a dependable source of energy for heating homes, powering industries, and generating electricity, particularly during peak demand periods and in regions where alternative energy sources may be limited.

In 2020, Saskatchewan’s natural gas production averaged 354.2 million cubic feet per day. Saskatchewan’s gas production represented approximately 2% of total Canadian natural gas production in 2020.* This natural resource plays a vital role in ensuring energy security and reliability in Saskatchewan.

The abundance of natural gas reserves in Saskatchewan signals a massive opportunity for enhanced and increased fertilizer production, benefiting local farming production each growing season.

With approximately 3.3 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves, and  low prices, utilizing this natural resource will be to the benefit of local farming operations in Saskatchewan and Western Canada. As natural gas is essential in fertilizer production, the proposed Genesis Fertilizers manufacturing complex harnesses the opportunity for local fertilizer production with consistent prices and supply. The proposed plant will produce urea – one of the most concentrated nitrogenous fertilizers, which allows for increased yields harvest after harvest. Check with the Genesis team to determine what other products the plant will produce.

Natural gas stands as a clean-burning energy source, offering a much more green-friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuels like coal and oil. Since Saskatchewan is home to an abundant supply of natural gas, utilizing the natural resource to benefit the local farming industry will only be a benefit to diversifying and enhancing the provincial economy – a positive for every resident and business.

As the world combats climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is not just key to our planet’s overall health, but it is impacting our overall financial picture as well. Compared to coal or oil, the amount of emissions from natural gas is a small fraction. Natural gas plays a vital role in transitioning to a greener future and economy for Canada.

Genesis Fertilizers’ proposed state-of-the-art and emission-friendly fertilizer manufacturing facility will capitalize on utilizing the abundance of this natural resource. It will create a strong partnership between two vital industries to the Saskatchewan economy – agriculture and natural gas production.

The natural gas economy in Saskatchewan contributes significantly to the province’s economic prosperity, energy security, and environmental sustainability. Through responsible resource management, technological innovation, and strategic planning, Saskatchewan’s natural gas industry remains a vital component of the province’s energy landscape and economic future.
