SASKATOON (October 14, 2021) – Genesis Grain & Fertilizers Operating Limited Partnership’s (GG&F LP), and together with Genesis Fertilizers (Genesis), today signed a land lease agreement with Side Group Rail to grant Genesis Fertilizers a lease to establish a fertilizer distribution SuperCenter located in Rycroft, Alta.

The proponents of Genesis Fertilizers Limited Partnership have been working to create a farmer-owned fertilizer production and distribution network to support farmers across Western Canada, providing urea fertilizer at competitive prices and a vehicle for farmers to participate in profit sharing up and down the supply chain. With the construction of the Genesis SuperCenter at Belle Plaine, Sask., underway and a proposed farmer-owned fertilizer production plant on the horizon, Genesis Fertilizers is focusing its efforts together with Axcess Capital to raise capital for the next phase. This phase will consist of doing the front-end engineering and design work for the urea plant along with the construction of two SuperCenters including one in the Peace River region.

“This facility will serve as a major fertilizer distribution hub for Northern Alberta and Northeastern British Columbia,” says Jason Mann, CEO of Genesis. “Expanding our distribution capacity in the Peace region demonstrates Genesis’ commitment to vertically integrate farming businesses, allowing investors to participate up the agri-business value chain to maximize farm profitability.”

The need for Canadian-made nitrogen fertilizer endures as average prices for urea continue to rise. The state-of-the-art urea production facility will be designed to produce 700,000 Mt of urea annually, with 525,000 Mt available for purchase by farmers through an offtake arrangement. Although a major project, this farmer-owned facility will supply less than 20 per cent of current urea usage in Western Canada.

The proposed distribution facility in Rycroft will be next to the Side Group Rail Rycroft Reload location. Each SuperCenter will reflect a modern approach to fertilizer distribution that includes logistics farmers are very familiar with (modern rail, truck and storage capabilities) allowing for a coordinated system with the urea plant and the most efficient transportation and storage of fertilizers to ensure world-class safety, quality and efficiency standards.

For more information about the proposed Peace Country SuperCenter location and the planned fertilizer production facility, Genesis is hosting an Open House in Rycroft on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 11:30 am to 5 pm. To register for the open house, visit https://genesisfertilizers.com/rycroft
